Proposed MI senate bill will reduce teacher pensions

For more than a year the Republican State Legislature has attacked the retirement of Michigan educators and other state employees in a variety of ways.

The latest attack, SB 1040, makes sweeping changes to limit the promised pension benefits received by both active and retired educators. We are calling on senators to oppose this current attack.

That’s why I created a petition to the Michigan State Senate and Governor Rick Snyder on SignOn.org, which says:

Vote NO on SB1040! Current educators should not have to pay even higher out-of-pocket costs to keep the benefits that have been promised to them. And retirees cannot afford for their health insurance premiums to increase, especially in light of the state’s new pension tax.
