In this life on earth we all may hear unique things, even things un-heard of or worse, situations and things that we may never understand – “no matter what!” Unfortunately this is one of those rare, targeted situations that this reporter will never understand, “no matter what!”  For the privacy and safety of the families involved, we must change the names to protect their identities; really this is a very real story. An unfortunate, very serious set of circumstances that will haunt the minds and hearts of the victims forever. A call came in for me to help an amazing, area grandmother whose daughter is a Single Mom, that works long, odd hours in a dangerous, but productive legal operations capacity-job. Let’s re-name the “real life” characters now shall we?

We’ll call the Grandmother “Ms. Mollie” , the daughter “Tina” , her daughter “Precious”, the neighbors daughter, “Rita” the deceased grandfather “Chester” , the thrifty shop co-owner, “Mr.” and the “key character” a most unsavory beast – the perpetrator; “McNasty.” Anyone else can be supporting cast members, for their identification.

The grandmother, “Ms. Mollie” was traveling through the city looking for re-sale and thrift shops and they stopped at one on Carolina Beach Rd. At the time, “Mr. M,” the store’s co-owner, was obliging enough to allow Ms. Mollie to use the store’s rest room. After using the rest room, Ms. Mollie struck up a conversation with Mr. M. about her granddaughter and a neighbor’s daughter, being sexually molested by a man who was (at the time) a trusted neighbor. The man, “McNasty” had unlimited access to the girls because he was a familiar face, trusted and otherwise known in their community. (Later in the story, he is literally banned from the girl’s street and placed under a 50 foot radius of those 2 neighboring houses). “Mr.McNasty” allegedly had his way with both girls; luring them in and having them perform oral sex on him! With “Precious” he was caught in a comprising position, in his personal vehicle a truck with an open bed and access to a tarp covering. “Ms. Mollie. Was looking for “Precious” and she was in the truck with “Mc. Nasty” – appearing dazed! “McNasty” was pulling his shirt down over the top of his pants and allegedly tried to make it seem as if he and the then 5 year old girl, were just having a friendly chat.
“McNasty” was caught with “Rita” due to the concerned grandmother “Ms. Mollie” literally went over to the girl’s home, and told the mother or a family member, that  she suspected “McNasty” of “fooling with “Rita!” Well, as fate would have it, “McNasty” allegedly had taken a 32 pencil, and placed it inside of “Rita’s” vagina, in efforts to break the skin of her “in tact Hymen!” The Hispanic family was of course out raged and had the child medically checked out, as did, the family of little “Precious.”

The legal system kicked in to some extent and for some reason, it has been 3 plus, long agonizing years for that shaken community. “Mc Nasty” was given orders to stay away for both girls and within a 50 foot radius as ordered by the police and the courts. “Ms. Mollie” said that they are trying to have faith in the overcrowded, overwhelmed legal system, but it gets harder by the day – as “Mc Nasty” has continued to teeter on the edge of the 50 foot radius, traveling in and out of that neighborhood, taunting the families
verbally and targeted verbal assaults. For example, “Ms. Mollie’s” husband “Chester” committed suicide for health  reasons and being powerless to help his favorite granddaughter – “Precious.”  “He felt less than and useless, to the family; and the mere sight of “McNasty” was just too much for him (and the others) to bear!  “Precious’s” mother is suffering from un-do stress and has been hospitalized for heart problems. “Ms. Mollie” fears that they will loose “Tina” too. In the meantime, “McNasty” allegedly brags that the is going to win, because no one will believe the girls and that “Precious’s” family is clearly unstable and that both families are poor, underprivileged, depicted as worthless “throw away’s” to society.  And, the longer the legal end drags on, the more watered down it gets.

The families of both girls in question believe that they have waited 3 years for justice to be served, but do not fee they will get the necessary justice for the girls and their respective families, because of the children’s race and ethnicity. “Precious” is the product of an interracial, out of wedlock union of a white mother and a black father.  “Rita” is of Mexican descent and a Hispanic family.  “Ms. Mollie” told us that she knew of another case like this, where everyone involved, both the victim and the perpetrator, were white (of Caucasian descent) and justice was swiftly served!

The court date is going to be in New Hanover County on August 20, 2012. Unless that changes, both families and the girls too- are praying for justice to be served.  Even then, a lifetime of counseling is going to be need for ”Rita” and “Precious!” We will keep you posted.
