Jim Smock

Government Liaison

Jim Smock, a Michigan native, has a breadth and depth of experience and leadership. He successfully led companies in the private sector; served with distinction in the public sector; and effectively lobbied for financial institutions in both Lansing and Washington, D.C.

Currently, Jim is the executive director of a non-profit advocacy and education association with members throughout the United States and Canada. He leads an organization with a diverse membership and both regional and national governing bodies.

In 1997, Jim took a start-up company and led it to over $1million in sales by the end of its first full year.  In 2003, he left the private sector to work for the Michigan legislature in a number of positions, both in the House and Senate, becoming chief of staff to Senator Jim Barcia. Jim has also lobbied for the Michigan Credit Union League and formed James Smock Consulting (JSC). At JSC, he advised a number of clients including small business; local government; non-profit associations, and entrepreneurs.

“I’ve known Jim for quite some time now, and we have had many discussions about his passion to aid in creating jobs and being an advocate for those less fortunate,” said Trish Brown, founder of TippingPointEducation and TPEPost.com. “I truly believe he brings an incredible amount of experience in non profits, advocacy and understanding how to organize a business structure. We are incredibly excited that we will have his guidance to move TPE forward.”

A graduate of the University of Michigan and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Jim is proud to join the TPE Team.
