My Two Mom’s Opens Eye & Raises Awareness

By Deborah A. Culp

Twenty year old Zach Wahls is at the threshold of becoming household name. “If in fact he has not already.”  Zach is the author of the innovative, non-fiction book titled; “My Two Moms” by Zach Wahls, with Bruce Littlefield. It’s a real life account about his life being raised by a same sex couple. His being was raised by two Mothers was by no accounts an easy job. For Zach, either of his mothers or their family as a whole.

Mr. Wahls book (My Two Moms) front cover gives readers an inside look at being raised in a same sex, two parent household. The photograph stunningly captures a loving photograph of Zach in the middle, with his 2 mom’s Terry “Tall Mom” Wahls and Jackie “Short Mom” Reger, on either side of him, lovingly placing a kiss on each side of his face. Zach has a younger sister, Zebby Wahls, who is an aspiring artist and Illustrator.

But it goes much deeper than that… In January of 2011, Wahls addressed the Iowa House Judiciary Committee in a public hearing regarding proposed Constitutional amendment to ban Gay Marriage in Iowa.  The (then 19 year old) son of a same sex couple made his point to a packed house where listeners could hear nothing but Zach’s voice and the gentle rustle of papers.

The speech was astounding and “clear as a bell.” Among the valid points that he covered, his family values reigned high. Zach Wahls proclaimed: “The sexual orientation of my parents had zero effect on the content of my character!” Banning Gay or same sex marriages is not the answer.

As with all House Judicial Committee meetings, members of the press & media are invited. Just hours later, Zach’s speech made it to the Internet and quickly went viral!  After the viral video earned over 2 million hits, countless people wanted to meet the” Boy With Two Moms.”

My Two Moms delivers a reassuring message to other same sex couples, their kids, families or anyone who has ever felt like an outsider. The message is meant to convey to readers “that you are not alone” in the fight (If in fact there is a fight) or situation.

Zach Wahls is a “normal” handsome young man and an Eagle Scout. He is energetic, a well educated student pursuing an Environmental Engineering Degree, among other things.

Noted Celebrity and TV Talk show Host Ellen DeGeneres was one of people who interviewed Zach. She also provided this soon to be bestseller (My Two Moms) and no doubt, “page turning book” with a professionally intriguing introduction, right on the cover.
