This fall, LACMA presents the sculptural masterpieces of LA artist, Ken Price, in the show Ken Price Sculpture: A Retrospective, on view September 16, 2012-January 6, 2013.

Ken Price redefined contemporary sculpture for more than fifty years with a constantly evolving practice that was uniquely positioned somewhere between sculpture and painting. The first retrospective of Price’s work in nearly twenty-five years, Ken Price Sculpture: A Retrospective presents one hundred objects that chart the lyrical progression of the late artist’s career—from his luminously glazed ovoid forms of the 1960s to the mottled, molten-like slumps that he had been creating in the years just before his death in February 2012.

At the time of his passing, Price had been working closely with curator Stephanie Barron and architect Frank O. Gehry, Price’s longtime friend, to create and design LACMA’s retrospective and the accompanying catalogue, which are now fitting tributes to this exceptional, influential artist.
