Debutante Ball for overweight girls promotes health, beauty & self-esteem to fight childhood obesity through the Curvy Girl Project

Full & Fabulous International, in honor of their 30th year anniversary  has several events planned, starting with the “A Rose is Still A Rose Debutante’ Ball” and The Curvy Girl Project slated for Saturday, June 23, 2012, 1pm-4pm  at the Doubletree Dearborn Hotel 5801 Southfield Expressway,  Detroit/Dearborn- 48228.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $25 for V.I.P. Eighteen plus size/curvy girls ages 9-19 “will strut their stuff” on stage, starting with an opening dance routine, talent, fashion show and a right-of-passage ceremony where they pledge to make healthy choices in every area of their life and especially their weight. The young lady who has the most improved grade point average and the most weight and inches lost, will win a $200 shopping spree and an all expense paid trip to New York City, in September! She will model in the “Curvy Fashion Show” during New York Fashion Week.

Shelly King, Curvy/Plus size model and actress of the TLC Network TV Show “Big Brooklyn Style” reality show that kicked off in May 2012.  Ms. King has also modeled for; Full Figured Fashion Week 2011 Manhattan, NY-Runway Model, Terronce Styles “F Word” Fashion Show are a few of her industry credits.  Ms. King will work with the girls on “Feeling Thin in the Skin You’re In ”  seminar, while making healthy choices and managing their weight. Also the girls will receive health, beauty & self-esteem tips.

On Sunday, June 24th , 2pm – 6pm at the Doubletree Dearborn Hotel, Ms. King will conduct a “Models Seminar” that’s open to the public for women who are interested in a career in modeling, a photographer and make-up artist will be on hand to offer participants their first photo shoot for their Models Portfolio. The seminar’s cost is $35 and any size woman or girl that may be interested in a modeling career can participate.  Go to For more information or call (313) 331-4929.
