TPE named Emmy award-winning journalist Shaun Robinson Hero of the Month for July 2013 for her outstanding work with education and young women.
“Everyone at TPE is beyond impressed with Shaun Robinson,” said Trish Brown, founder of TPE. “She’s a true example of someone who is giving back to her community and making a difference in the lives of America’s most valuable asset… our young people.”
Robinson released her book, Exactly As I Am, in 2009. The book chronicles the experiences and troubles of many influential women in entertainment, politics, and other industries in an attempt to inspire young women to dream big. Women that contributed to Exactly As I Am include Celine Dion, Queen Latifah, Mandy Moore, Nancy Pelosi, Oprah Winfrey and many more.
“But what does perfect really mean, anyway? We are all vulnerable to the images of beauty all around us,” Robinson states in her book, “These images are ubiquitous and send the unfortunate message that in order to be considered acceptable, we have to look a certain way—almost always some other way than we actually do.”
While participating on the TV game show Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Robinson raised $10,000 for the charity Girls, Inc. of which she is a board member. Girls, Inc. strives to teach girls ages as young as six and as old as 18 about money management, living a healthy life, and academic success. Girls, Inc. also encourages girls to gain an interest in fields traditionally dominated by men: technology, science and math.
Currently, Robinson is a weekend co-anchor and correspondent for the television program Access Hollywood. Access Hollywood is a news program that covers celebrities and events in the entertainment industry.
Robinson has been a role model for women for many years. She is a Detroit native who graduated from Cass Technical Highschool and has worked at various news stations in Detroit, Milwaukee, Wis., Austin, Texas, and Miami. For her work as a news anchor and correspondent, Robinson received an award from the Associated Press and an American Women in Radio and Television award.
