August 2013 Hero Jon Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi has been named TPE Hero of the Month for August 2013 for his dedication to helping the hungry, homeless, and those affected by natural disasters. On July 8, 2013, Jon Bon Jovi donated $1 million dollars on behalf of his Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

“Natural disasters spare no one,” said Bon Jovi frontman, Jon Bon Jovi, a New Jersey native. “But you can’t imagine the devastation, destruction and despair until Mother Nature takes aim at your hometown. This is bittersweet; it’s heartbreaking to see our fellow New Jerseyans so affected by the ravages of Hurricane Sandy but we’re happy to make this donation and offer real, substantial help to the residents of Sayreville and the nearby, low-lying communities as they rebuild their homes and lives.”

The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation was created in 2006 and was previously known as the Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to “combat issues that force families and individuals into economic despair by supporting innovative community efforts to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.”

On October 19, 2011, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation opened the JBJ Soul Kitchen. The JBJ Soul Kitchen is a community restaurant located in Red Bank, NJ. Diners at the restaurant are asked for a minimum donation of $10 dollars. If diners are unable to pay for their meal, they can volunteer at the restaurant to cover the cost of the meal.

In addition to his work with the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, Jon Bon Jovi has worked with other charitable organizations including the Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Covenant House, and Project H.O.M.E.

Jon Bon Jovi started his music career in June 1982 when he recorded the song “Runaway.” The song provided a platform for Jon Bon Jovi to form the band Bon Jovi. Their first, self-titled album was released on January 21, 1984. The band has released a total of 12 albums since its creation. The band has been performing for 30 years.
