Darron “Saxman” McKinney: defender of people & the spiritual heart

Saxman Darron McKinney is both a Master Musician and decorated Police Officer (Detroit Public School District) ; studied music at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana under famed Jazz Master Alvin Batiste of New Orleans. After Leaving Louisiana, he returned to Detroit, quickly getting back into the mainstream. Among the artist he has shared the stage with, including but not, limited to:  Ben Tankard, Pieces of a Dream, Marion Meadows, Angela Bofil, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Jimmy Heath, Roy Ayers, Betty Carter, Joe Sample, Cuba Gooding, Regina Belle, Mikki Howard and Waymen Tisdale

As a newcomer trying to make inroads into the smooth jazz scene, he’s off to a really great start. Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide Darron McKinney is an imposing physical presence but a gentle musical giant nonetheless. Chicago DJ Markie Bee’s Comments – “Ah that smooth jazz has the old Skool steppers slow drag beat”. He was speaking about is from McKinney’s CD called  “Feel Like Makin Love”, definitely a danceable song for the steppers and wall flower foot patters alike!
