I am a Special Ed  kid ,because I have trouble reading and writing and spelling. I also have trouble with Math.

It was so hard for me in school,  because I had to keep going to the teacher for help, and kids made fun of me, because I could not do it alone. Many times, I felt sad, but I kept saying in inside of myself I can do it, and I would push to keep

trying.

It  was so hard to hear all the time, and kids kept doing things that would make me sad. And to see other Special Ed kids getting put down,  makes me  sad too. I tell other kids like me, you can do it .

Do not  let other people get the best of you.   I also tell kids, when they do make fun of you  at school, where ever you are at …just take what the other kids are saying and use is as power.  Move forward  to keep going  and you will get the dream you want,

I want to say we are just like everyone else. We , as special ed students, have to try even harder to get what we want to do in life, but we can do what we put our minds to.

I currently work with my nieces , and nephew five days a week, and get paid for it   I currently work at a restaurant called Senate Coney Island two days a week also. And I make book marks,  picture frames , door hangers for  the kids  at Children Hospital of Michigan  and St. Jude children Research  Hospital In  Memphis TN  to bring smiles to their faces.

Why I do it is because I know some of the kids inside of the hospital do not think people outside the hospital care. I want them to know that someone like me outside of the hospital does  cares.  I think they need a gift from all of   us outside this hospital to bring a smile.

I did at Story with WXYZ Channel 7 here in Detroit.  After  my story  aired on  DEC 24, 2010,  I had a lot  people say what a great thing I am doing for the kids in the hospital .  It took me some time to think about what Level I want to take it next. Then I   filed my paper work  with State of Michigan  and was approved for my  name  for My Corporation  called ( Handmade Gifts Of  Love  Nonprofit Corporation)  then I had to file for My  Tax ID Number and it was approved  to  where I can start taking  donation  from other people so I can continue in helping the kids.  What I hope to do with (Handmade Gifts of Love Nonprofit  Corporation )  Where I can go in the hospital  with  a camera crew,  and do a documentary and show what Handmade Gifts Of Love is about.

When I was in school, I had a great teacher her name was Miss Dell.  She was there for me the day I start school, and  when I lost my mother in April 15, 1999  and until the day I graduated  in June 12, 2001.  I also have my best friend Karla who helps me in some of my reading  and spelling too . I hope you will read my column in the TPE Post every month and would love to hear from you too.

About Joseph Muzzin

Joseph Muzzin was inspired by a television commercial for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Joe was moved by the struggle the children face, and wanted to show his support. He began by creating paper bookmarks. In the years to follow Joe expanded to frames and door hangers. Gifts are sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Children's Hospital of Michigan each month.
